FAQ > Questions > Does the Bujinkan teach self-defence?
Bujinkan is excellent for self-defence as its main aim is not to engage in fighting but to escape. The paradox of being a good martial artist is that you learn to avoid getting into fights. Learning the vast array of skills that enable you to defend yourself in an aggressive situation leads to an appreciation of the dangers of such situations and a personal philosophy of avoiding them.
Nevertheless, sometimes danger is unavoidable if engaged in security work and this martial art is used by security personnel the world over including ambulance staff, mental health workers, police, special forces, soldiers, etc.
All you need for the Bujinkan to work for you as a self-defence system is dedicated training, patience and a good heart.
