"Samurai" is a term given to the warrior class of feudal Japan. Generally, the schools of martial arts that existed in the medieval period were taught to this class of warriors. These schools are called "Ryuha" or "Ryu".

Six of the nine Bujinkan schools are Samurai ryuha.
