The Bujinkan uses the modern Dan/Kyu system used by other Japanese arts. All grades are recognised by the International Bujinkan Organisation based in Noda, Japan. Grading varies from person to person but below is a rough guide.

Beginner:       9th-1st Kyu   -  takes 2-4 years

Intermediate:  1st-4th Dan  - takes 1-3 years for each grade

Advanced:       5th-9th Dan -  10-20 years training in total. This is the instructor level.

Master:            10th Dan      - usually over 20 years training

All grades are given on an individual basis of continual assessment.
